Tokyoflash Japan Releases the Kisai Uzumaki

Tokyoflash Japan has finally released the Kisai Uzumaki! I don't know about you, but when I first laid eyes on Firdaus' design it became my most wanted watch. While the finalized version does in fact deter a bit from the original design, the heart behind the design is still there. The elegance of the descending circles is definitely something that will gain the attention of your friends, family, and coworkers!

Whether you choose a black strap with green or blue, or a silver strap with green or blue, you can count on the great quality showing through that we have all come to expect from Tokyoflash Japan. If you haven't already, check out the video above because you NEED to see this thing in real life motion.
Kisai Uzumaki's Many Colors

OK, so now on to my favorite part of the watch, oh you thought I had covered that did you? Nope, the EL back-light is amazing. I'll let a picture of it speak for itself.

Kisai Uzumaki with eye exploding EL backlight turned on!
This watch is definitely going to sell out fast, there is a $99 special introductory price going on during the initial 48 hours of the launch. Don't come crying to me if you miss out on the great deal before it goes to the regular price of $129. The watch can, of course, be bought on Tokyoflash Japan's website at this direct link-http://www.tokyoflash.com/en/watches/kisai/uzumaki/

All pictures and the Youtube video are property of Tokyoflash Japan. I am just a fan of their work!

RPM Designer James Fursedon Interview

The RPM watch is one of Tokyoflash Japan’s most popular and most stunning watches available in the current range of limited edition watches from Tokyoflash Japan. The RPM has spawned many variations, I would assume due to the popularity of the original design. Tokyoflash Reviews had the opportunity to speak with James Fursedon, the mastermind behind the watch’s design. Here is what he had to say.

Kisai RPM
Tokyoflash Reviews: What was your initial reaction to having your watch made a reality?
How did your friends and family react?

James: I was really excited, just having my idea drawn up on the blog was awesome. It felt great to be the first fan submitted idea to get published too. I found it hard to believe it was going on sale and still had thoughts that it was a wind-up until it was actually in my hands.  My friends were really supportive, I'm known as a bit of a gadget fan so everyone knew this was a dream come true for me! It was great to have my name on my favourite tech blogs too; I have made a list of these on my Facebook page so I have something to show the grand kids in the future. My Mum and Girlfriend are still holding on to hope that Tokyoflash make a pink version so they can wear it too!

Tokyoflash Reviews: Did you submit any conceptual drawings or pictures of the RPM or did you send in the idea by itself?

James: I sent in a few paragraphs, I have very limited knowledge of 3D software and I'm completely useless with a pencil so I had to make sure my idea was as descriptive and clear as possible. I sent ideas for the face, time telling technique, LED animation and materials used. The drawn up design was instantly recognisable as my own suggestion but the design team added a few changes to my concept. My original idea was to have two different colour LEDs for the hours and minutes, I'm glad they changed this to one, it makes the design a lot sleeker. They had to change the touch sensitive button on the face to a button on the side during the technical design process, I was a little disappointed by this at the time but I think it makes the watch more user friendly.

Tokyoflash Reviews: How did you come up with the idea for the RPM? Did you have any specific inspiration?

James: I saw on the blog that they were willing to take suggestions so I got to work; first I set some boundaries to give myself the best chance of getting published/produced. It had to be realistic, technically similar to other Tokyoflash watches but of a style that hadn't previously been made, so I knew it would be IP coated steel with LEDs. I wanted it to be less cryptic than other watches to give it a more mass-market appeal, hence the similarities to a traditional watch face. The LEDs meant the centre of the face would be empty, I thought it would be an ideal place for the main button and drew on my experience in the steel industry for the design. I have always loved the look of brushed steel and the patterns that are created as light reflects off the surface and thought it would be just enough detail to make the watch look interesting. The 'RPM' name and DJ theme weren't my ideas but I think they work well and I can really see the likeness with turntables.

Tokyoflash Reviews: How long did you work on the design?

James: Are you sitting down? About half an hour! I set myself the boundaries, had a 20 minute power-nap and woke up with the concept. Simple.

Tokyoflash Reviews: How many designs have you submitted to the Design Studio Blog?

James: Just the one

Tokyoflash Japan: How long have you been a fan to Tokyoflash Japan?

James: Since 2004, my first Tokyoflash watch was the PIMP 'Trip the light fantastic'.

Tokyoflash Reviews: What do you do for work?

James: I'm an Electrician

Tokyoflash Reviews: Besides the RPM, out of current and past watches, what is your favorite Tokyoflash Japan watch?

James: 'Pimpin' ain't easy' IP black, I love this watch, a classic design and completely baffling to Joe Public. It needs new batteries though.

Tokyoflash Reviews: Do you feel the royalties you have received are reasonable?

James: Yes.

Tokyoflash Reviews: Can we look forward to any future designs being submitted by you?

James: I have one more good idea but I think I'll leave it up to everyone else, I'm not greedy.

Tokyoflash Reviews: Out of all the different variations of the RPM, which is your favorite and why?

James: My favourite is the original as it was my concept but aside from that, I love the white acetate. It is lightweight and really eye-catching, much nicer to wear in the summer. I think it is great that Tokyoflash keep coming back with more variations, I hope they are still working on more!

Tokyoflash Reviews: How long did it take for the RPM to be fully produced from the time Tokyoflash contacted you about the RPM? Would you care to elaborate on the communication that took place between you and Tokyoflash?

James: I first sent my idea in February 2010 and it was on sale in November 2010, so 9 months. I have a contact at Tokyoflash who is great; he has been really open with me, giving me advance notice of new variations and stock deliveries. Also a sneak peek at the webpages before they are launched and press packs etc. I didn't have any communication during the design process; the first I heard was a week before launch so it was a real surprise.

Tokyoflash Reviews: Finally, since you have the attention of Tokyoflash Japan fans, is there anything you would like to add about yourself or the RPM?

James: I'd like to thank everyone who commented and voted, without you the RPM wouldn't have been made! Good luck to anyone who has sent in ideas, it's a great feeling to be published and awesome to go into production, I hope many of you get to join the club soon. Finally thanks to Tokyoflash and everyone who has bought the RPM, you have made a geek very happy!

Tokyoflash Reviews: Thank you for taking the time to speak with me James! I wish you the best of luck with all of your future endeavors and I know I am not the only one who is hoping that you decide to submit that one more good idea you have for a watch!

Not too long ago, Tokyoflash Japan released a few variations that were extremely limited editions of the RPM. Three of those extreme limited editions are being re-released soon. The three variations are: Tempest, Graphite, and Saturn. There is currently no indication of the date these are being released, so if you want one, keep your eyes peeled. You can see what they look like at this link.

Kisai Kaidoku Designer Tynan Mayhew Interview

Recently, Tokyoflash Japan released the Kisai Kaidoku, a watch that was designed by 15 year old Tynan Mayhew. Tynan was kind enough to provide an interview exclusively to Tokyoflash Reviews. Here is what he had to say!
Kisai Kaidoku

Tokyoflash Reviews: What was your initial reaction to having your watch made a reality? How did your friends and family react?
Tynan: My friends and family were excited to see what it would look like, and my parents told me that they were quite proud. My initial reaction to having my watch made was thinking that it was just an April Fool's joke. However, once I realized that it was serious, I was ecstatic!
Tokyoflash Reviews: Did you submit any conceptual drawings or pictures of the Kaidoku or did you send in the idea by itself?
Tynan: I submitted a simple drawing along with a short description to the Tokyoflash design blog. They can be seen in the Concept To Reality section on the blog, and the original post, respectively.
Tokyoflash Reviews:  How did you come up with the idea for the Kaidoku? Did you have any specific inspiration?
Tynan: I came up with the idea while thinking of something that would reflect the Tokyoflash style, yet still be original. I'd have to say my inspiration was Tokyoflash itself, and a text clock screensaver on my computer, although displaying time in a slightly different fashion.
Tokyoflash Reviews:  How long did you work on the design?
Tynan: To be honest, the actual drawing and description took me only around an hour in total. I did come up with the idea in the summer, but it wasn't until early September that I submitted it.
Tokyoflash Reviews: How many designs have you submitted to the Design Studio Blog?
Tynan: So far, this has been the only design I have sent in.
Kisai Kaidoku black and blue on the left and white and purple on the right

Tokyoflash Reviews: How long have you been a fan to Tokyoflash Japan?
Tynan: I have been a fan of this unique watch company for about a year now, as I stumbled across the Tokyoflash website in search of a new watch last summer.
Tokyoflash Reviews: What do you do in your free time?
Tynan: In my free time I enjoy photography, karate, soccer, and above all, spending time with my beautiful girlfriend.
Tokyoflash Reviews: Besides the Kaidoku, out of current and past watches, what is your favorite Tokyoflash Japan watch?
Tynan: I have two favourite watches, the Trip the Light Fantastic, and the RPM.
Tokyoflash Reviews:  Can we look forward to any future designs being submitted by you?
Tynan: Yes, I do plan to submit more designs to the Tokyoflash design blog.
Tokyoflash Reviews: Out of all the different variations of the Kaidoku, which is your favorite?
Tynan: Out of the four different colours, the black watch and blue display combination is my favourite.
Tokyoflash Reviews: How long did it take for the Kaidoku to be fully produced from the time Tokyoflash contacted you about the Kaidoku? Would you care to elaborate on the communication that took place between you and Tokyoflash?
Tynan: The watch was released just over 2 months after I was first contacted in regards to my design. Basically, I was asked if my design could be used, and if I would allow myself to be put on a commission for the sales. The design process was explained to me; the case, module, and strap had to be made separately, and once they were assembled, a sample was sent to Tokyoflash for approval. Once it passed, mass production would begin.
Tokyoflash Reviews: Finally, since you have the attention of Tokyoflash Japan fans, is there anything you would like to add about yourself or the Kaidoku?
Tynan: There isn't much left to say about myself or the watch, but I would like to thank Tokyoflash for making this watch, as well as everyone who voted on its design. I encourage all fans to try their hand at designing their own watch. Who knows, maybe yours will be the next one made!
Tokyoflash Reviews: Thanks for the interview Tynan! Good luck on future designs!
If you would like to purchase the Kisai Kaidoku, it is a very reasonable $139. The Kaidoku qualifies for free shipping and is available in four color variations: black and blue, white and green, white and purple, and white and blue. Tokyoflash Japan Releases the Kisai Kaidoku

Tokyoflash Japan has released a brand new watch! The Kisai Kaidoku features something that I have never seen before: The time is told in words instead of numbers. Sound awesome? It is. The watch is available in black and blue, white and blue, white and green, and finally white and purple. Take a look at two of the variations available.
Black and blue Kisai Kaidoku

White and green Kisai Kaidoku

The Kisai Kaidoku features a durable leather strap. The leather is made from genuine cowhide so you don’t have to worry about having knockoff or fake leather wrapping around your wrist while you are wearing the Kaidoku. The time is told on the Kaidoku by 3 blinking words. Whichever words are blinking allows you to tell the time with ease while making everyone else wonder what the heck is on the display. I especially like the metal frame around the face of the watch, it has adds finesse to the overall futuristic look of the Kaidoku. The look is definitely unique and 100% Tokyoflash.

The watch is priced at $139 which means it qualifies for free shipping since all orders over $120 receive free shipping. If you have never made a purchase at Tokyoflash Japan before it is worth noting that newly registered members receive 600 points which equates to $6 off your order. The watch can be found at this link: http://www.tokyoflash.com/en/watches/kisai/kaidoku/. Please remember you can subscribe to my blog and comments are welcome as well. I will be posting reviews for Tokyoflash Japan products in the future and I can promise you won’t want to miss the in depth reviews that I will have available for you!

The Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog and You

The Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog is more important than you might think. Whether you are just a fan of Tokyoflash Japan or someone with a new watch idea, you should be paying more attention to the Design Studio Blog then you probably already are.

If you are a fan of Tokyoflash, the Design Studio Blog is the place for you to help decide which designs get made. You help by voting how many stars you think the design deserves out of a five star scale. You also help by clicking "yes" or "no" in the "would you buy this product" area of the blog. Both parts of this voting process are located immediately to the left and right of the bottom of the watch design. It is important to note that you may only vote within 30 days of the posting of a design on the blog. Finally, you can also post comments that will be seen by other fans, the designer of the watch, and Tokyoflash itself. Your comments could help shape the future of the design! Hopefully it is now clear why you should be participating in voting on the Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog more often.

If you fancy yourself someone that can design a watch that fits the Tokyoflash standards of being unique and awesome, you could find yourself raking in up to $20,000 or more in royalties. The Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog doesn't even require you to create 3d images as there are staff members that can handle that part. If you have ever had an idea for a unique watch and you think it has a shot, send it in to Tokyoflash! The worst that can happen is they pass on your idea, the best that can happen is you make money off of the royalties and can tell your friends that you helped design a watch, do you know anyone that can say that?

I hope that you have already seen the Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog before now. If you haven't, the link to the blog can be found here. If you have an idea, check out this link here. Make sure to vote if you are a fan. Make sure to follow the example of how to submit a design if you decide to submit a design.

Tokyoflash Reveals a New Watch Will be Announced Soon!

Tokyoflash Japan announced on Twitter that they will be making a new product announcement in the coming days. Tokyoflash confirmed that the watch they are announcing was previously featured on the Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog.

About a month ago, Tokyoflash released the Kisai RPM Acetate Limited Edition along with the standard Kisai RPM Acetate. It is entirely possible that the new watch could be a limited quantity release. With this in mind, I highly recommend if you are anticipating the release of a specific watch from the Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog, you keep an eye on tokyoflash.com. Doing a bit of research, I found some times that may be useful for you to remember. Tokyoflash announced the Kisai RPM Acetate around 3:00AM GMT-5. Tokyoflash announced the Rogue SR2 around 9:30PM GMT-5. Observing the dates of the announcements, I found that both announcements took place early in the week.

I recommend keeping a close eye on tokyoflash.com from 9PM GMT-5 to 4AM GMT-5 on Monday and Tuesday. I will be staying up late to ensure that if the watch released is the one I have been looking forward to, I can get my hands on it and not have to worry about it being sold out. I also recommend following Tokyoflash Japan's Twitter account at http://twitter.com/#!/tokyoflashnews because when they announced the Rogue SR2, it was done on their Twitter account before it was announced on their Facebook page.

Please remember this is all simply speculation from a huge Tokyoflash Japan fan. Also, remember you can subscribe to my blog to ensure you stay up to date on the latest news concerning Tokyoflash products. If you know anyone else that enjoys Tokyoflash products, let them know about my blog so they can stay informed too! Finally, you can also comment on this blog to let people know what you think.
